Iris Janssen
|
Currently completing her Bachelor of Education at Western University, Iris Janssen is an educator and musician by day, editor by night. She recently finished her Masters of Music Education focusing on culturally responsive pedagogy and education in choral music, right after finishing her Bachelor of Music (Honours Music Ed) in Voice and Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Language with a minor in Theatre Studies. Originally from the Netherlands with Dutch-Indonesian roots, Iris and her family have lived in Canada since 2010 and met Ron and Jamelie by chance at a farmers market a few years back. Since then, Iris has been involved with their work and ECH as both friend and editor for tabloids, books, anthologies and more. Though not a media artist by trade, her commitment and intrigue to the work that ECH puts out to support local artists and advocacy has made her invested in the art community and their efforts. Outside of study, Iris is a passionate voice and piano teacher, choral conductor, singer, and avid reader. She has taught and conducted throughout her entire study, and is a keen reader and editor for ECH’s publications. When not studying or writing, you can find Iris enjoying the theatre, the library, the movies or at the park.
