Michaela Lucio is a visual artist, curator, and arts administrator based in Chatham-Kent, Ontario. In her art practice, Lucio engages with identity and narrative; she explores the residue of histories contained in family photographs and infuses intergenerational relationships with memory and imagination. Her work often dives into the lived experiences of womanhood, utilizing mediums such as watercolour, embroidery, and fibre arts, mediums steeped with associations with femininity and feminism. Lucio began her role as Assistant Curator of the Thames Art Gallery in 2019. she holds a Specialist Honours Bachelor of Art from the University of Toronto and an Advanced Diploma in Art and Art History from Sheridan College, where she was awarded the prestigious Silver Metal Award upon graduating. She has exhibited her art in juried exhibitions at galleries across Southwestern Ontario, including The Living Art Centre (Mississauga), The First Canadian Place (Toronto), Gallery 1313 (Toronto), and Glenhryst Art Gallery (Brantford). In 2022 and 2024, she won first place at the WFCU Credit Union Painting Competition and Exhibition (Leamington Art Centre).
