MIREYA SEYMOUR
Mireya Seymour is currently an undergraduate student in the Honours Specialization for Museum & Curatorial Studies and Art History at the University of Western Ontario. As a First Nations person from Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, Mireya is focused on strengthening community ties between Indigenous people and museums. Through her university study, Mireya is currently exploring ways museums can continue to work with First Nations communities by honouring the Truth and Reconciliation agreement, especially when it comes to the repatriation of historic artworks and cultural objects.
In addition to curation, Mireya has a small business, Seeds of the Moon, creating beaded jewelry. Her focus is on designing and making Indigenous jewelry that challenges the “Indigenous inspired" narrative, where authentic and meaningful Indigenous designs are culturally appropriated to benefit commercial and indiviual non-Indigenous businesses. Her website will be listed below and updated as needed. https://seedsofthemoon.etsy.com |
