Ruth Skinner works as an arts organizer, educator, and publisher in London, Ontario. She is currently working as Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator for the School of Advanced Studies in the Arts and Humanities at Western University, where her focus is on supporting and developing public programming and community-focused initiatives with faculty and students. Her recent doctoral dissertation considered experimental publishing practices, artists' books, forensics and clairvoyance. Overall, her research, teaching and curatorial interests span artists' publishing and distribution practices; histories, theories of representation & spectatorship; digital & media literacy, archival practices & access; histories, theories of photography; artist-run culture in Canada; intersections of art, esotericism & forensics.
Ruth has operated as the art imprint Edna Press since 2017, and she is a co-organizer of Support project space alongside Tegan Moore and Liza Eurich. She is currently part of the Advisory Circle for the Embassy Cultural House. Previously, she was Director of Forest City Gallery and a member of the cross-disciplinary research team behind the Renal Community Photo Initiative, a participant-centric study which invites individuals undergoing dialysis to express themselves and their daily lives through photography. |
